If I had time I’d tell you about all the cycling we’ve been doing (30daysofbiking) and various other things. But I don’t.

So all I’ll mention is that there are two new cards in the shop today. Truckin’ and Dodger.

And just one last thing, because it is an important issue. While I did have my heart set on a sparkly green helmet I now am thinking of something a bit more summery. Yellow maybe?

Day 3

Its Day 3 of 30 days of biking. At least it’s not raining.

As usual we headed off to school on our bikes. Friday is a very relaxed day, nothing after school that we need to race off to, so The Flipster rode his dragster. With 12″ wheels its not the most practical bike for getting around but it is possibly one of the best looking. Its tricky for him to wear his school backpack because of the sissy bar so these are the only mornings I agree to carry his bag for him. I suspect that’s another reason he likes riding it.

After dropping the kids at school I had extended coffee at the brunswick east project with lots of crafty mums before picking up my groceries from the co-op. Forgot to take this shot while I was actually riding so you’ll have to settle for “arriving home”.

the perfect man

Recently I mentioned to a friend that we were looking for people to build a bike, a dog-proof chook fence and an irrigation system. Said friend not only knew someone to do all these jobs but it was the one guy to do the lot!

As it turns out, Rob, or Mr Fixit as he has become known in our household (apologies to Stomper Girl), won’t be building a bicycle for The Dutchman after all, but he could have.

He is building a new Boef-proof chook fence, a necessary upgrade after certain infamous events earlier this year. He is also building an irrigation system for our raised veggie beds. We’ve been using our veggie beds for a few years now and I just can’t face one more summer of endless hand-watering. Now that we have 13000 L of water in our tanks an irrigation system is next on my wish-list.

Our chook fence is being built using a nice iron screen I found in a skip, split sleepers and other bits and pieces. Great progress has been made in just a few days and it looks like we may be ready for spring after all. Mr Fixit also brings Stella, his kelpie-cross, with him and she provides Boef with hours of entertainment and company. Everyone is happy!
